COVID-19

  • Guidelines and Procedures

We are currently following the recommendations of the BCCDC and Worksafe BC. We appreciate your patience as we adapt to these new times

Rentals

  • Can I bring my dog?

You may bring your pet, but they count as a seat, so paddling with a dog in a single kayak is not allowed. Please rent a double kayak for you and your pooch and an additional paddler! Unfortunatly our SUPs are unable to accommodate your furry friend. You are responsible for cleaning out the kayak of any hair etc..

  • Can I go paddling by myself?

You can rent a kayak by yourself if you have experience doing a solo capsize re-entry. If you do not know how to get yourself back in a kayak by yourself after a capsize, you will have to paddle with a friend or take a tour. You are allowed to rent a stand up paddleboard by yourself.

  • How old do I have to be?

    • To participate in our adult lessons or the Full Moon Paddle, youth must be at least 16 years of age.
    • Kids Camps are 8-14
    • Youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult on the water.
    • All participants under 19 years of age must have a waiver form completed by their legal guardian and must provide a credit card as a deposit prior to renting.

  • How will I know what time it is out on the water?

If you do not have a waterproof watch, we do sell phone cases that you can take on the water with you if you would like to have your phone. We do not recommend putting your phone in a ziplock bag, leave it on shore or buy a proper case!

  • What about safety gear?

Rocky Point Kayak provides all participants with the neccessary safety gear including a PFD.  All of our instructors are Paddle Canada certified and have the appropriate first-aid certification.

  • Where do I park?

We encourage all of our visitors to take public transit. The evergreen line brings you to Port Moody station;  just steps away from our rental office!

Parking is limited at Rocky Point Park in the summer months, so please leave plenty of time to find parking and arrive on time for your reservation or program.

Parking can be found at 2715 Esplanade Ave (Boathouse Restaurant) & 2800 Murray St. (Rocky Point Pool and Ice Cream Shop) these lots have a 4 hour time limit. Additional parking can be found on WEEKENDS at the West Coast Express Train Station (located at 65 Williams Street, east of the Moody Street overpass)

Payments

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

We accept debit and credit payments only! Unfortunatly we cannot accommodate american express cards.

  • Will I get a refund if I have to cancel an online booking?

We understand that sometimes there is a sudden change in plans. In order to keep our business running smoothly we do have limitations on our refund policies. Please view our safety and cancellation policies for more information.

  • What if I cancel last minute?

    RENTALS

24 hours’ notice is required to cancel a rental reservation. There is a $15 cancellation penalty per boat per day for less than 24 hours’ notice. Your rental period begins from the start time of your reservation.

This policy is flexible if we are not completely booked. However, if we are turning away customers to hold boats that you decide to cancel within the 24 hour period; you will be charged the cancellation penalty.

    LESSONS/TOURS

7 days notice is required  for a full refund to cancel a group, tour or lesson reservation. 48 hours notice to reschedule to another date where possible.

Group Bookings

  • Do parents and teachers have to pay?

We welcome teachers, chaperones, and parents to join us on the water; however, we only offer one free per every ten paid participants. Some restrictions apply if we are over our guiding ratios.

  • What should I do before my group arrives?

Let us know the precise number in your group 48 hours prior to your program.  This will allow us to arrange the correct number of guides and boats for your group. To speed up the amount of time it takes to get set up, please fill out our rental waiver online!

  • Where can participants store their gear while they're on the water?

We have limited space within our store that can accommodate students back packs, however, we ask that you keep your belongings to a minimum.

  • What should we wear/bring?

Do NOT wear cotton!  Wear layers of breathable, quick drying fabric, and a layer of rain gear and pack a hat and water bottle.  It is never a bad idea to pack an extra change of clothes as this is a water sport! Heeled sandals, water shoes or old sports shoes are the best choice for footwear.  Please remind your group to not bring valuables or electronics.

  • What do we do when we arrive?

Our instructors will be waiting to greet your group upon your arrival. Please send the organizer into the office to hand in waivers and discuss payment. The instructors will help students get ready for their water activity with quick on-land instruction.

  • What is the RPK guide-to-boat ratio?

1 guide per 6 boats or 6 Sups

  • What if it rains?

Programs run rain or shine. We want your group to have a positive experience so if you are more of a “fair weather paddler”, please check the forecast and make your call two days prior so you are eligible for your full refund. Rocky Point Kayak reserves the right to cancel programs if weather conditions are assessed to be hazardous.

Summer Camp

  • Where do I drop my campers off for the first day?

Our instructors will be waiting outside to greet your campers. Please sign your camper in with the head instructor at the front of the rental office.

  • Does my camper have to be able to swim?

We recommend that campers have taken swim lessons and are comfortable swimming. All water activities are done in PFDs, and campers will never be near the water without a PFD on.

  • What is the schedule each day?

Your campers day starts off with kayaking from 9:30am-12:00pm. They will learn basic paddling skills, play games in their kayaks and explore the inlet under the supervision of instructors. 12:00pm-1:00pm is lunch time. The rest of the day is filled with on-land activities.

Our SUP camp is on the water from drop off to pick up.

  • Can campers buy lunch?

Campers do not have time to purchase lunch from the Boathouse or Pajos Fish and Chips. Please ensure your camper is sent with a packed lunch. After lunch there is time to go to the ice cream store for ice cream/candy. On Friday campers are given free ice cream from Rocky Point Ice Cream.
